FLOW STATE
Liberate Your Potential
Flow is an ideal state of consciousness characterized by intrinsic motivation, allowing you to feel and perform at your best. It’s a state where focus becomes razor-sharp, and you are fully absorbed in the task at hand. In flow, action and awareness merge seamlessly, self-consciousness fades, and time distorts—either speeding up or slowing down.
The Power of Flow
In this state, both mental and physical performance peak. Learning accelerates, execution becomes effortless, and your full potential is unleashed, transforming you into a finely tuned machine.
To fully experience flow, it’s important to navigate its natural cycle: The Flow Cycle involves four distinct phases—two that guide you into flow and one that leads you out of it:
THE FLOW CYCLE INVOLVES 4 PHASES:
STRUGGLE — counter STRUGGLE with persistence
RELEASE of struggle by sustained attention
FLOW — an optimal state of consciousness, a form of intrinsic motivation where you feel and perform your best
RECOVERY — by replenishing your neurologic state, deploy results of the flow.
Flow occurs both signally and within a group or community. Sometimes called in the zone or in the groove, the term emerged from psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.
FLOW STATE PILLARS
-
Blockers:
Minimize distractions, such as phone use and the tendency to multitask.
Align your brain waves with your optimal time of day, for instance, syncing them with the morning during sleep.
Proneness:
Align your physiology, psychology, and environment to optimize the conditions for entering the flow state.
Triggers:
Incorporate goals and feedback into your activities.
Favor challenging tasks over those that match your skill level to sustain an optimal flow state.
Flow State Cycle:
Counter Struggle with Persistence (Cycle 1): Confront challenges with persistence and determination.
Release of Struggle with Sustained Attention (Cycle 2): Shift from struggling to a state of sustained attention, letting go of obstacles.
Flow (Cycle 3): Enter the Flow State where optimal performance and focus occur.
Recovery by Replenishing Neurologic State, Deploy Product of the Flow (Cycle 4): Recover by replenishing your neurological state utilizing the outcomes of the flow state.
